Designing Interiors That Age Gracefully

The most enduring interiors are rarely the most fashionable. They are the ones that still feel right a decade later — calm, considered and quietly personal.

Choose materials that improve with time

Oak, stone, linen, wool and unlacquered brass all soften and deepen with use. Materials that wear well give a home a sense of history rather than fatigue, and they forgive the marks of everyday life.

Build a quiet, layered palette

Start with a restrained base of warm neutrals and let texture do the work. Layer in depth through natural fibres, considered lighting and a few pieces with genuine character. Colour can arrive in small, changeable details.

Invest where it counts

Spend on the things you touch every day — seating, beds, lighting and surfaces. Save on the decorative and the trend-led, which are easy and inexpensive to refresh as your taste evolves.

Leave room to breathe

Negative space is not wasted space. A room that is not overfilled feels generous and lets the pieces you love stand on their own. Editing is the most underrated tool in any interior.
